Fun in the Sun

I can't believe it is almost Labor Day and summer is almost over! Where did the time go?!

Here in Los Angeles, summer weather will stick around for a while, and we will still get to enjoy the heat for many more weeks. Even though summer can be so much fun, it  can also bring some skin challenges. So, here are a list of quick tips to consider.

  1. Chemical sunscreens like Oxybenzone can cause health issues and hurt marine life. Choose sunscreen with the active ingredient of Zinc Oxide, like Hale & Hush's Broad Spectrum SPF 30, https://juliaelizabetholsson.com/products/broad-spectrum-spf-30-dual-shield-hydrate
  2. Sunscreens can be greasy and for acne prone people, can cause break-outs. For many of my clients, I suggest using mineral powder sunscreen on their face instead. My favorite is Mineralogie Face & Body Block, https://www.mineralogiemakeup.com/products/face-body-block?sca_ref=8652298.dL9kI4wSIkHrAi
  3. If you are out in the sun and have been sweating, it is a good idea to wash your face more often if you are acne prone. Wash it after a sweaty activity to prevent break-outs.
  4. If you do end up getting burned, drink a lot of water, and cool it off with Hale & Hush's Hush Hydrate. It cools instantly and starts the healing immediately. https://juliaelizabetholsson.com/products/hush-hydrate-gel
  5. If you have been burned in the sun, wait until skin is completely healed before doing any waxing.
  6. If you are using products that contain Retinal or other acids, like mandelic, glycolic, or lactic, really anything that can make you sun sensitive (even some medications), take extra precautions when going out into the sun. I suggest two forms of sunscreen, something you apply plus a hat or cover up.
  7. Reapply your sunscreen. The SPF means nothing if you do not re-apply often to protect yourself.
  8. All skin can burn and get damaged by the sun, even if you have dark skin. Remember, UVA rays cause aging and inflammation, and UVB rays cause burning. Both UVA and UVB can cause cancer. So, you should use eyewear and sunscreen that are effective for both types.
  9. Stay hydrated. Water is your best buddy. Our skin and body will feel and look its best when properly hydrated.
  10. Have a great time and enjoy! Summer is a special time of year and will be gone before you know it!
